SCAM ALERT!

We have been made aware of a scam involving a scammer calling the elderly claiming to be their grandchildren and claiming to be in law enforcement custody. As mentioned previously, the scam begins with something most grandparents don’t get enough of, a phone call from a grandchild, or so the caller says, but it almost always ends with a desperate plea for money. Most of the time, the victim that is scammed is told they can pay bail with gift cards that have large amounts of money on them. First and foremost , we want to inform the public that NO JAIL ACCEPTS GIFT CARDS AS PAYMENT FOR BAIL.  Please, if you or a loved one receive a call such as this one‐

DO NOT GIVE ANY OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION and DO NOT
SEND ANY MONEY, GIFT CARDS, MONEY ORDERS, ETC.
Instead, please hang up and contact the Peabody Police at
978.538.6301 and ask to speak to a police
officer to file a report.
